RAISING QUALITY CHILDREN FOR THE NATION’S BETTER FUTURE
Some say motherhood begins at the point of pregnancy and ends when the child starts his own family. For Danda Crimelda Buhain, Chief External Affairs Officer (CEAO) of REX Education, motherhood goes beyond this notion and even extends outside the home.
As a mom, Buhain shares the same life goal as REX to raise holistically developed children. “My goal is to educate [my children] to become quality people because I–and the company–believe that the strength of this nation comes from education. If we give our children quality education, they become quality graduates, and become quality Filipinos.”
With this, Buhain has resolved to equip her children with the necessary skills and values that they need to possess in facing adult life. She subscribes to the idea of “planned” parenting where parents should act like an educational institution for their children. “You have to have a plan. If you fail to plan, you plan to fail,” she says.
Children’s formative years are the best time to observe their strengths and help them develop their assets, says Buhain. She also believes in “personalized parenting” where no two children should be held under the same standards when it comes to honing their interests.
“You can follow the same set of house rules, same set of mantra and values for the whole family, but when it comes to raising my son who is a musician and my other son who wants to become a lawyer, I set a differentiation. You have to become some sort of a curriculum developer for your own children so that they can each maximize their potential to excel in their chosen paths.”
This principle also coincides with REX Education’s vision to see Filipinos thrive in the world of tomorrow. Suffice to say, raising your own children to become quality individuals through good education and by instilling good values is every parent’s contribution to the success of the nation.
