As we approach this year’s Earth Day celebration, internationally aptly themed “Restore Our Earth,” Conrad Manila is taking part in the movement to promote awareness on sustainability by embracing and showcasing the meaningful artworks of post-consumer artist Gilbert Calderon Angeles.

Angeles is a Fine Arts graduate of the University of Santo Tomas. He hailed from Bulacan and is also an entrepreneur, teacher, and a proud family man. His passion for arts was ignited by his advocacy and sheer desire to contribute to global action in helping restore and heal the world.

Waste artist Angeles creates attractively stunning, vibrant, and meaningful pieces of contemporary
abstract paintings that literally turns everyday trash into creative treasures.

Last March 4, 2021, Conrad Manila proudly unveiled “Of Art and Wine: New Earth, New Life, New Hope” at the hotel’s Gallery C.

The meaningful artworks of Gilbert Angeles on display

The exhibit, co-presented by Green Artz, displays Angeles’ environmental commitment and advocacy to find creative ways to reduce, reuse, and recycle plastic wastes such as single-use sachets that are one of the biggest pollutants in the country to date. Angeles seamlessly connects ecology, astronomy, sociology, and artistry in his vibrant ode to the world.

A highlight of the exhibit opening is a short demonstration conducted by Gilbert for guests, using GreenArtz eco color paints and binder mixed with ready-to-use shredded single-use plastic laminates. The demo was likened to a master class, a fun way of experiencing sustainable art work while eliminating wastes polluting our ecosystems.

Guests were able to create their own sustainable art works using GreenArtz eco color paints and binder
mixed with ready-to-use shredded single-use plastics.

Ms. Elizabeth Sy, the visionary leader of Conrad Manila’s art program, commended the efforts of Angeles and Green Artz to recycle non-art materials. She congratulated them for showcasing how sustainable art can be a tool for environmental preservation.

Conrad Manila’s new General Manager Linda Pecoraro, an avid art enthusiast, also shared, “We are equally proud to present Gilbert Angeles’ artistry and advocacy captured in the 23 colorful art pieces. ‘New Earth, New Life, New Hope’ celebrates life and nature, which is echoed by Conrad Manila through our own Travel With Purpose corporate social responsibility campaign. We encourage everyone to join us in the celebration and appreciation of genuine Filipino creativity inspired by a heartfelt commitment to save Mother Earth.”

The exhibit is open to the public until May 9, 2021. For more information on the artworks, you may view their digital brochure or digital pricelist. You may also call +632 8833 9999 or email conradmanila@conradhotels.com.
