Stepping into the Rizal Room of the Manila House Private Club, one is immediately immersed in a world of boundless artistic interpretations, with pieces resonating with thought and emotion. Fondly referred to as “G” by many, Gladys Young stated, “This collection is, without a doubt, my favorite among all I’ve created.”

Aptly titled “Meet Me Thursday,” the day of her exhibition launch, the collection boasts some of G’s select one-off pieces. “It’s mostly my one-of-a-kinds, and we’re bringing it to Manila to display for a limited time, so yes, there’s an urgency—meet me Thursday.”

The fact that the collection holds a special place in G’s heart isn’t surprising, given the myriad collections she has curated during her illustrious 20-year career as a jewelry designer. The art exhibition is strictly by invitation, and features pieces that are delicate yet bold in character, a combination of the artist’s finesse and the material’s unyielding strength. “Vero embodies wearable art that radiates abundant character, offering a multitude of design possibilities to embrace diverse tastes and individuality,” G said.

The Vero founder envisions her pieces as a perfect match for empowered, chic, and versatile Filipina women brimming with confidence and courage. “Passion spells the difference. When you love what you do, it speaks that language. And while some call it talent, I call it drive.”

When asked about her sources of inspiration, G says she draws her creative energy from audacious women who embrace risk without reservation. The designer herself understands the art of taking calculated risks. “Prior to delving into jewelry design, I worked in our family’s restaurant chain,” she revealed. “But art is what I love, what I do, and I believe that I will be doing this forever. That’s what propelled me forward in this journey.” Twenty years since pursuing her passion, the rewards prove that choosing passion wasn’t a mistake.
