Empowering Filipino talent and craftsmanship has been  a dynamic campaign, pursuing to push local products in various industries to greater heights. Such movements aim to help local producers and traditions continue to thrive as demand for unique, artisanal and sustainable, ethical produce grow both domestically and globally.

Sharing the same passion and commitment, Makati Shangri-La Manila dedicated the whole month of March (Women’s Month) to champion Philippine culture and microenterprises through a showcase of food and fashion. The premier hotel, in partnership with GREAT (Gender Responsive Economic Action for Transformation of Women) Women, staged an exhibit of local textiles made by women weavers from Luzon, Visayas, and Mindanao.

Capping off the event was a fashion show presenting local handwoven textiles used on contemporary styles. Modern, versatile designs with a notable Asian flair were elevated with lush textures, prints, and colors from our very own local weaves. It was a testament that, indeed, traditional fabrics can become modern and wearable through innovation.

A Filipino-themed afternoon high tea

Local food and flavors were also highlighted during the month-long celebration. At the Lobby Lounge, guests enjoyed a Filipino-themed afternoon high tea that   included dishes masterfully prepared with local ingredients by women producers from ECHOstore.
