Asian Dragon Magazine congratulates the new president of the Philippines, Rodrigo Roa Duterte. We are honored to have had him grace the cover of our July-August 2015 issue, when he was still the “Reluctant Candidate.”

Asian Dragon Magazine’s shoot with President Duterte for the July-August 2015 issue has gone a long way, with our various photographs showing in various other publications and congratulatory banners and messages. The particular photo below was the opening spread of our cover story entitled, “The reluctant candidate,” where Mayor Rodrigo Duterte of Davao City revealed he can’t decide whether to run or not in the next presidential elections. He told Asian Dragon why he had no intentions of doing so, but also expounded on what to expect if he won.

Mayor Rodrigo Duterte: The reluctant candidate

Among the countless publications, online articles, banners, and campaign materials where photos from this photoshoot were used, one of our proudest moments is when we finally saw this photo immortalized in President Duterte’s official portrait, which now hang alongside other presidential portraits in Malacañang’s reception hall.

The portrait of the president, which will now become the official portrait that will stay in the walls of Malacañang, was painted by Daryl De Leon Descallar. This pose of President Duterte has already become a signature pose of sorts, which shows him leaning back casually with his fingers pointing to his sintido (temple). It symbolizes how casual the President could be, and at the same time, how he values common sense and wisdom.
