Tanabata Matsuri is a popular summer festival in Japan, which tells the story of star-crossed lovers, Hikoboshi (Altair) and Orihime (Vega). They are separated by the Milky Way and can only meet once a year, on July 7.
In Japan, families celebrate the season by writing wishes on tanzaku and hanging them on bamboo trees, alongside vibrant decorations that light up homes and neighborhoods.
Here’s your guide to making the most of Mitsukoshi BGC’s second year anniversary and Tanabata Matsuri celebration.

The celebration kicked off last July 18, marking two years of award-winning Japanese retail experience in the Philippines. The event began with a special inauguration and the traditional Kagami Biraki ceremony—symbolizing harmony, gratitude, and new beginnings. The festivities culminated with the unveiling of the makeover of Mitsuko, Mitsukoshi BGC’s beloved Kokeshi doll fronting 8th Avenue.
